Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

IPL Treatments

  • What is IPL?

IPL can treat your pigment changes like brown age spots and Rosacea; it can also treat widespread blotchiness, freckles, and red spots. It is also very effective for improving uneven skin tone.

  • How Does it Work?

The IPL system uses light to correct the pigment in the layers of your skin to reduce discoloration and promote a more even skin tone. IPL treats specific areas without abrading the skin’s surface.

  • What Can I Expect After Treatment?

If you have specific spots treated, they will darken immediately and begin to flake off naturally within one to three weeks to reveal clearer skin.

  • Who is Eligible?

Anyone with light or medium color skin may be a candidate for IPL. We will assess your particular skin type and let you know if you’re a candidate when you come for your consultation.

  • Treatment Aftercare

After treatment from the IPL laser, you should avoid overexposure to the sun for at least 2 to 3 weeks. If you plan on tanning or being exposed to extended periods of sun, you should consider the Laser Genesis option. Ask Dr. Sarma for more information.

  • Treatment Duration

Treatment time varies according to the size of the area you are having treated, but one treatment averages about 30 minutes.

  • What Does Treatment Feel Like?

You may feel brief pinches during treatment, similar to a rubber band snapping. Still, no local anesthesia or pain medication is necessary. There is no need to interrupt your everyday routine.

  • How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The number of treatments recommended will depend on what you are having treated. Typically, three to five treatments can provide significant clearance. When you come in for your consultation, we will give you information tailored to your particular needs and desires.

  • Are the Effects Permanent?

The improvement in the areas treated is permanent. Still, over time new spots may appear as a result of recent sun exposure and the ongoing aging process. These, too, can be removed.
