Brown Spot Removal Treatments

What are Brown Spots?

Brown spots are Pigmented Lesions (abnormal concentrations of melanin). They can also be called age spots or sun spots. Commonly found on the face, neck, arms, and back of the hands, brown spots are usually the result of excessive sun exposure.

How Do Lasers Remove Brown Spots?

The dark pigmentation of the brown spot (melanin) absorbs the laser's energy and becomes heated. This heating allows the cells of the brown spot to be absorbed back into your body. The procedure lasts just a few minutes. You can achieve results in one treatment.

Is the Treatment Effective for All Skin Types?

Pigmented lesions (brown spots) are abnormal concentrations of melanin in a single location. Depending on the amount of melanin in your skin, treatment may have little effect. Dr. Sarma will review treatment effectiveness on your first laser and sun spot removal consultation.

What Should I Expect During Treatment?

The laser emits short flashes of light called pulses. The impact of the energy from the light pulse is similar to the snap of a thin rubber band. The laser pulse effect on patients is minimal.

What Should I Expect After Treatment?

Immediately following the brown spots treatment, there will be slight redness, which will go away in a few days. No side effects should be expected. After treatment, we recommend using sunscreen.
